John Radcliffe Hospital’s path to net zero: Insights from Jeenash Mistry

Meet Jeenash Mistry from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH).

During a recent visit to the hospital, we talked to Jeenash about the Trust’s net zero vision and why its Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme project has been such a success.

A total of £24.1m was awarded to the John Radcliffe and £5.7m to Horton General under Phase 3b of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

Jeenash who is head of OUH’s facilities and estates operation highlighted key areas of success which meant the hospital has delivered the project on time.

It’s been his job to project manage the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme project for the hospital and to work with our teams at Salix to ensure all key deadlines have been met.

In our video Jeenash’s highlights include:

  • Doing a lot of work with no impact on patients
  • Nurturing and maintaining strong partnerships
  • The support of Salix and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
  • Key results include a system that is more efficient, on-site energy generation and improved controls.

He said: “I think what we have achieved here is quite remarkable. We have managed to upgrade the heating infrastructure in the live operational environment in a hospital without any patients or staff noticing any difference in patient care.”
