We’ll support you on your net zero journey
Our Salix team tells Hub audience how it delivers impact across the public sector
Practical solutions to decarbonisation were top of the agenda when our Salix team presented at a Midlands Net Zero Hub meeting this week.
The event at Nottingham Library saw members of our delivery, energy and carbon and technical teams talk the audience through a typical net zero journey for public sector buildings.
This included sharing our experience of working with public sector organisations specifically on the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and the Low Carbon Skills Fund.
Programme co-ordinator Evelyn West said: “We deliver major decarbonisation projects across the country and there is a lot of information to take on board.
“We work very closely with the organisations, even before an application is submitted for a scheme, for example, people are joining our webinars and asking questions via email. We want to provide as much information as possible.
“And of course we are working with hundreds of projects and supporting many teams from across the public sector on their net zero journey.
“We feel privileged to be on this journey with them, supporting them and celebrating the successes but also addressing the challenges.”
The day was organised by the Midlands Net Zero Hub and included organisations from Newark & Sherwood District Council, Nottingham City Council and other surrounding local authorities.
During the day, our Salix team not only presented to the audience but was also able to take questions, covering topics like funding criteria, support for smaller councils in building applications, and how to handle unexpected issues with contractors. These discussions provided a great opportunity to share insights and offer practical advice, helping public sector organisations feel more prepared and supported as they begin their decarbonisation journey.
It’s so valuable to meet people face to face and this certainly strengthens the relationships which are so important to us here at Salix.
“Events like this are a chance to connect directly with people, hearing about their plans and challenges firsthand. It’s inspiring to see so many people passionate about reaching net zero, and these conversations make sure we’re all working together to make a real impact.”
The Hub works with Local Enterprise Partnerships, local authorities, and community organisations to improve capacity and capability on reaching net zero.
Its job is to support organisations to develop and finance local decarbonisation and energy projects.
Robert Palmer from the Midlands Net Zero Hub said: “These meetings are hugely useful for us and a great way to demonstrate how we can all work together to achieve our net zero ambitious.
“It’s always interesting to hear from delegates and the challenges they face.
“These in person events offer a welcoming space for delegates to better understand funding opportunities available, and meet the teams involved in delivering the schemes.”
Fellow Hub colleague Shannan Bhandal, said: “Events such as these are a great way to integrate and get to know the various backgrounds and reasons behind projects across the region - we are also very grateful for Salix to attend and share some their expertise to allow us to create quality applications and allow some fantastic projects to come to life.
“Another big thank you to all who attended, and we look forward to hosting similar events and meeting in the future.”
The Salix team included our colleagues Evelyn West, Zoe Wragg, Beth Thompson, Jordan Noffke and Jack Howlett.
Thank you to the Midlands Net Zero Hub and to Nottingham for hosting us on the day.
