Putting Yorkshire at the heart of the green conversation

Liam speaking at event

Yorkshire is at the heart of the circular economy debate as experts meet to discuss green issues this week.

The Yorkshire Sustainability Festival, which runs until June 21, brings together leaders in sustainability from across the country.

Our Salix team were in Leeds, England, on Tuesday inspiring change and sharing ideas across the public sector.

Salix programme manager Liam Gillard spoke at the event focusing on big picture ideas of how we can meet challenging net zero goals.

He said: “It’s been incredible to be with like-minded people at The Yorkshire Sustainability Festival discussing the circular economy, showcasing the success and opportunities within the public sector that are driving real change.

“Every day at Salix we talk to a whole range of public sector bodies delivering amazing change across their organisations, meeting the net zero challenges and looking at the big picture, providing a joined-up approach.

“It’s good to be here to discuss the issues around the circular economy on a local, national and international scale too.”

Liam’s talk, Empowering Yorkshire's Public Sector: Decarbonisation and the Circular Economy, provided the audience with real examples of what can be achieved.

Liam gave delegates an insight into our work at Salix and how we empower public sector bodies to reach their sustainability goals. Liam provided an overview of the work Salix has completed across Yorkshire with a total value of £71.2m worth of grants that have been awarded so far. He shared inspiring client-based projects to demonstrate what can be achieved.

As well as the schemes we deliver at Salix which are dedicated to reducing carbon emissions and supporting the government’s ambitious net zero targets, we also play an important role in increasing awareness of energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation across the public sector throughout the UK.

Our teams work closely with the public sector organisations throughout their decarbonisation journey, from the moment a grant is allocated to the moment the scheme is fully operational.

The Yorkshire Sustainability event, from 10-21 June, runs across Bradford, Hull, Sheffield and York. It includes round table and panel discussions. The festival is also aimed at showcasing innovative projects taking places across Yorkshire and the UK, from the trailblazers to the policy making on issues around climate change.
