Project overview

As part of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, Lichfield District Council has been awarded £1,062,574 in government funding to reduce carbon emissions from Burntwood Leisure Centre, as well as two council buildings, The Pavilion at Beacon Park and District Council House. It is estimated the technologies installed will reduce carbon emissions by 260 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The updates include:
  • Burntwood Leisure Centre: Installation of solar PV, energy storage batteries, LED lighting and an air source heat pump for the building and the pool.
  • The Pavilion & District Council House: Installation of air source heat pumps, upgrades to heating management systems, air conditioning, LED lighting and insulation.

The grants are some of the largest awarded to a District Council and will support the Council’s sustainability plans which outline efforts to decarbonise energy sources in council buildings, in order to achieve net zero carbon.

We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the council and the organisations that work with us. This funding helps us take a significant step towards achieving the goals of our climate change pledge.

Councillor Doug Pullen Leader of Lichfield District Council

Retrofitting council buildings

The Pavilion and District Council buildings received upgrades to their heating management systems, insulation and air conditioning, as well as LED lighting and the installation of air source heat pumps.

The project will target reductions in energy usage and an increase in the thermal insulation of the buildings at both sites. Work will include the fitting of air source heat pumps, improvements to heating management, replacement air conditioning, energy-saving lighting and new lighting controls as well as upgrading insulation.
