Salix and Winners at the Big Sustainability Awards 2023

An ambitious hospital trust which has driven change and innovation within a tight deadline has scooped a prestigious national sustainabilty award.

Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been crowned as category winner in the Big Sustainability Awards 2023. They came tops in the Net Zero Journey of the Year category, which is sponsored by Salix.

As delivery partner for the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, working for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Salix is proud to work with the Trust to help them achieve their net zero targets.

Steve Wedgwood, Trust director of operational estates and facilities, said on the NHS website: "Once again, the Estates and Facilities Team have beaten regional and national competitors to win these prestigious awards.

“This is the 13th award won by the team in just six years - in recognition of the excellent work undertaken in promoting and delivering real sustainability and change at the Trust.

“As always, it was a team effort, highlighting the contribution made by all Estates and Facilities teams to support the work of Hyder Mohammad, as the Head of Sustainability, in bringing it all together to meet the Trust Green Plan commitments and net zero target.”

This is the 13th award won by the team in just six years - in recognition of the excellent work undertaken in promoting and delivering real sustainability and change at the Trust.

The Big Sustainability Awards 2023 was held at the Hilton Ageas Bowl, on 26 October 2023. Categories included Energy Management, Startup of the Year, Waste Management Project, Sustainable Transport Project of the year, Sustainable Product/Service of the year, Communicating your Sustainability Project, ISO 14001.

TV celebrity and ceremony host, Fred Dinenage, announced the winners and entertained the guests celebrating the incredible achievements of organisations and individuals with songs and anecdotes.

As the sponsor for Net Zero Journey of the Year category, Salix looked at a clear sustainability plan and evidence that it is delivered on core objectives to reach net zero.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was recognised because of its work in raising the profile of sustainability, generating partnership work, as well as educating and empowering others.

In less than three years, the Trust have proven to be trailblazers - launching the UK’s first electric ambulance, integrated sustainability, and demonstrated that it is possible to make energy, carbon, and cost savings, as well as gaining national and international recognition for their work.

Throughout the awards night, the choir entertained the guests whilst raffle prizes were shared.
