Salix exhibits at Westminster event

Team Salix was on the ground at this week’s Government Property24 event to discuss how funding opportunities can support public sector organisations on their journey to net zero.

The conference, held at Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, attracted hundreds of professionals from across government and the wider public sector. This included estates managers, project managers, surveyors, directors, strategic leads, sustainability and energy specialists and more.

Salix programme manager Rebecca McNamara and client support officer Gerald Habib supported an exhibitor stand to respond to queries relevant to the schemes we deliver.

We fielded an array of questions related to current and future phases of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, and the Low Carbon Skills Fund, both of which are delivered by Salix on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Rebecca said: “The conference was a fantastic opportunity for stakeholders across the sector to share knowledge, experiences and lessons, and to discuss overcoming challenges to achieve success.

“It was also beneficial for us to be able to answer questions on how government funding, delivered by Salix, can support these organisations on their decarbonisation journey.”

Presenting in a half-hour slot in the early afternoon, former head of decarbonisation and planning maintenance at Leeds City Council Nazar Soofi shared advice and insight from his personal experience with the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

Nazar has one of the most successful track records in securing and delivering Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme projects through his work at Leeds City Council.

Nazar said: “The journey to net zero is very important and is going to be very difficult to achieve - we have to really strive to get there.

“I see Salix as a key enabler in this journey.

“Bringing capital to the table really opens doors and allows estate managers to invest in infrastructure that’s already end of life with greener technology that would otherwise be cost prohibited.”

Salix client support officers Marcus Tang and Owain Davies also attended as delegates, listening to key messages shared at the informative sessions throughout the day.

Session topics included embedding social value across large and diverse portfolios, challenges and solutions associated with transforming the public estate, strategic asset management and a panel debate and Q&A with senior property professionals from central government and beyond.

Rebecca added: “We spoke to people from public and private organisations with a wide breadth of experience and knowledge in various fields related to decarbonisation.

“It is clear that sustainability is a top priority, and that the public sector estate needs to be addressed as we work toward net zero ambitions.”
