Reflecting on two decades of sustainability achievements and shaping the path forward in higher education.

Embark on a reflective journey with us as we learn from two decades of sustainability action and celebrate the milestones that have transformed how universities, colleges, and other higher and further education institutions approach sustainability. This year's Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education (EAUC) event will take place next week, on 25-26 June.

The annual conference, Celebrating 20 Years of Impact, will feature some of the UK’s top academics, leaders, and professionals in higher and further education as they address the climate and ecological emergency. Our team at Salix will host a dedicated round table titled "Decarbonising Our Sector."

Hayley Bristow-Grant, Salix Programme Manager, said: "We're excited to host a round table discussion at this year's EAUC conference to explore how universities and colleges are pioneering decarbonisation in our sector.

"It's inspiring to connect with so many organisations that have ambitious targets and innovative projects. By sharing our experiences, we can collectively tackle the climate crisis. As a sector, we play a crucial role in educating and energising future generations and leading the UK's journey to net zero."

Our session will be held on the second day of the event, which will be welcomed and hosted by Professor Zoe Robinson, Professor of Sustainability in Higher Education; Director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures, Keele University; and Co-Chair of the EAUC Board.

Our round table will delve into the progress and challenges of decarbonisation within the higher and further education sector. Drawing upon insights from previous and current recipients of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Grant (PSDS), the discussion will focus on the experiences and specific hurdles faced by leading colleges and universities.

The conversation will broaden to address key questions about our sector: what distinguishes us? how can we foster better collaboration? what does the future hold for decarbonisation in higher and further education?

Round table speakers include:

  • Hayley Bristow-Grant, programme manager, Salix
  • Scott Keiler, sustainability and communications manager, University for the Creative Arts
  • Paul Spencer, carbon reduction manager, Oxford Brookes University
  • Dave Roffey, director of projects and sustainability, Bedford College Group
  • Riikka Vihriälä, group director strategic projects, New City College

If you're a first-time delegate, this is your opportunity to expand your professional network and discover people and solutions that will help you drive change.

The event will be held at the University of Winchester, 25-26 June, with our round table session running on 26 June from 11.05 am – 12.05 pm.

Join us for an engaging and transformative event as we work together towards a sustainable future.

If you can't make it to the round table, feel free to visit us; we’ll be exhibiting throughout the two days.
